Infrared imaging is the latest technology being used for diagnosis of a wide range of building problems such as poor insulation, detecting HVAC leaks, overheated electric panels and moisture problems.
I use thermal imaging as I would any other inspection tool to document known defects and sometimes reveal suspected problems that were not visible. Sometimes the revelation of a problem can be dramatic.
Since the infrared sensor depends on temperature differences, it cannot be used in the same manner all year round. In the winter or during mild weather, there will be little if any temperature differences to exploit although it is still useful for moisture problems or overheating issues.
